As distance and open learning has changed my life

When I was approached to write a piece about the Open and distance learning, I came up with this piece. After reading through, I concluded that my life has changed completely because of it. I did not realize what until I wrote about it, and got half reading test. This is what I wrote:

'When I got married I quit my job in the legal profession. Eighteen years later, and three children later, I decided that there must be more to my future. I had time to spend on something I wanted, but I did not know what I do. I looked through the courses that Oxford College ODL offered by open learning and distance education, and realized that this mode of education was a very good place to start. I chose the features of education that I do not want to waste time, and there were quite a few '! Examples of these were not sitting in classrooms with younger students who seem to me, strict rules and class times that had to be respected, and worry about cramming for exams that were taken in large rooms full of these again, the young students. Oxford College ODL through their distance education and open learning courses offered me what I wanted, all that remained to do was to choose where I wanted to start.

I decided to start with two courses that were completely different, so I enrolled in one that I thought would help me understand the world around me, and one that would help me with confidence and my relationship with my children. The first is in the form of a diploma in sociology, and the second in a diploma in life coaching. I knew I was taking a lot, but this was just for me, and I could take five years to complete! Not brought me anywhere near that time to complete both. I completed my degree with honors in sociology, and I am in my second last assignment for my diploma in Life Coaching. I was able to put a lot of time in my studio, but was just shy of two years now and I have accomplished more than I thought I was capable of.

My plans are to spend a diploma in psychology next which my background in sociology has given me a deep interest, and for myself rather selfishly, I intend to enroll in English literature that I believe will give me the confidence to enjoy the writings and works of those who have spent their lives composing pure entertainment and quality. I could not do this if it were not for distance education and open training courses offered.

Through me, my children have gained confidence. My training in life coaching has given me the ability to support my children without interfering which gives them confidence. My son started his own business since with my support and my daughter is studying through distance education as they are, while training in distance running. He realized, as I have, that there are many ways to get quality education and not have to get in the way of other ambitions'.

Distance learning and open learning have changed our lives a lot, and there are many reasons to study this way. I came to learn that education is not something to be afraid of, is something for everyone, and is something you should be able to take your pace. Distance learning has done this for us with us to demonstrate that education is not just there for those who want to further their job prospects, but is also there for people just to gain knowledge in areas that are involved and through this is impossible to describe the feeling of confidence that is realized. I always thought that education was more for those who have had to make more money for themselves and it was only a means to enhance their job prospects. It 'a lot more and has opened my eyes to a new way of living. E 'for me, for my children, and for all. Distance learning does not discriminate. This is a gift.
