There are so many ways to motivate students to see the value of school and behave better. If you are a teacher, you want to use every one of these gems. These interventions should be used from Day 1:
*** Replace Brains Brawn: Many young people say that school is a waste, they know many people who have survived without education and skills. But many of these people will not be in our new millennium high tech as your students. Show them education and skills they need to survive. Early 20th century, 80% of manual labor jobs. At the beginning of the 21st century, one of the most charming small 15% of manual labor jobs. A strong back was replaced by the brain and fingers.
*** Got Skills?: Few schools have a formal plan to train students on the nuts and bolts to be a student. Some students try this! They do not seem to have no idea how often speak in class, manage their homework, arrive on time, etc. Be sure These skills will teach you all not matter how old or young are your students. Until they get these skills, they struggle. That's a very fun easy to teach students in opposition to feel the homework assignment: Let your students know that embedded in some of the next assignment will be a "goodie" that will be easily obtained through carefully listening to the assignment as given. (You can also direct listeners to cache cookies or adhesives, for examples.) Be sure to cover all other aspects of the management of homework too. Many of our books provide dozens of lessons to teach all add-ons.
*** What is On Time, Really? Be on time may seem unimportant to your youth. Ask them if they will ever need to work. When they say they want, ask them to name all the jobs that allow you to appear every time you want, or not appear at all. There are none.
*** BONUS TIP: For students who are ugly to others, adapting the previous statement. Ask the student to name all the jobs and companies can do and say when they want to be. There are none. Ask recently fired, winning Indiana coach Bobby Knight, who is an excellent example of how one can lose their job. Show them no matter malice.
*** Lost in Cyber Space: High tech tools are becoming absolutely essential. In 5-10 years, most bills can be via email. Test your students' willingness to survive with our High Tech Planet making define these terms: Mailer Daemon, DSL, Spam, Servers, Secure Domain.
