Distance Learning, The Future of Teaching

Distance Learning Online

Distance learning online has become the latest hi-tech alternative to the old classroom teaching.

What is distance learning?

Distance learning as a term is normally used when talking about teaching and learning where the student is in a place in the world and the school / teacher in another place.

Why use it?

There are many good reasons why a school chooses to use distance learning or e-learning.

1. The school has students from a wide geographic area. And to be able to boost this sector (and the number of students possible), without the need for a larger or more campus dormitories, the online teaching methods to long distance works very well.

2. The school has areas of campus, located at great distances. This is one of the newest ways of using distance education. The student is actually located in a campus, but as the school has a variety of locations and students (and teachers) would have to travel for hours to reach each of them, the classes have been modified in the distance learning experiences.

3. Fewer teachers. This is possible, as a teacher can teach without traveling to different places around the country (and world) without leaving his or her room!

Tools used

There are many different levels of technical and teaching methods applied for use at a distance.

Everything from e-mail and a simple bulletin board, live video streaming and advanced areas where students and teachers can work together in an interactive way.

The tests and working documents can be mailed or saved and retrieved directly from the server again via filesharing schools.

And by combining such things as high-resolution webcam and Skype, the cooperation can be taken to a whole new level and never seen before.

There will be a lot of progress in the field of distance learning in the future. Who knows, your children can also have the opportunity to take some lessons from home, using tools built into the TV in the future.
